Treadmill or Moving Sidewalk

“When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it.” Joshua 3:3
It is my hope and desire that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends, celebrating the goodness of the Lord to us. Here is an article I wrote that I believe will propel us forward into the next phase of our destiny. Also, at the end of the article is a list of dates to save for 2014. What a joy to “move forward” into all that the Lord has destined for us in 2014.
Treadmill or Moving Sidewalk

In prayer this week, I saw a vision of myself on a tread mill inside our church. I was walking very quickly, using lots of energy and exercising leg muscles, but I was not “moving forward” or going anywhere, but simply walking in place. The Lord spoke to me that this is a picture of religious activity that gives the impression of movement, but doesn’t really go anywhere. A treadmill is great exercise, but it is not the equipment to move forward on the path laid out for us. I understood more of what He was saying when I did some research on the treadmill versus a moving sidewalk. In meditating on this concept, it occurred to me that perhaps many of us are walking in place instead of moving forward. I asked the Lord, how we can get off the treadmill and step onto the moving sidewalk that propels us forward in His plan for us. The scripture that came to mind was II Peter 1:21 “For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”Self-effort is the treadmill! Holy Spirit is the moving sidewalk. I began to see that in order to move forward, we must prophesy our future. We must decree that our lives and ministries are filled with His power, Presence, and anointing. Acts 17:28 says, “For in him we live and move and have our being.” So if we do not move in Him, we do not move forward.

For too long we have asked the Lord to bless our “good ideas” instead of being moved and led by His Spirit in our activities and direction. On a treadmill, the scenery does not change and the movement in place becomes monotonous. Some experts say that it can cause the runner to develop bad running habits. It also requires a strict pace and gives little satisfaction as opposed to running outdoors and enjoying the scenery. It’s time to get off the treadmill of religious activity and move onto the moving sidewalk of Holy Spirit.

A few months ago, I was traveling to and from Ireland and had the opportunity to step onto the moving sidewalk at London Heathrow Airport. After an exhausting flight and lots of security, stepping onto that sidewalk was a life saver. All I had to do was step onto it and it did the moving. This sidewalk was a connector between two terminals and brought me to the place of my next flight. It was convenient, allowed me to rest even when I was moving, used little energy, and was a clear path to the next place.

Some moving sidewalks are designed to take you up to the next level, avoiding stairs and escalators that are sometimes dangerous when you are carrying traveling extras. I believe it is time to be propelled to another level of strength, power, and expansion.

What has the Lord spoken to you? What are your dreams? Prophesy them into existence! Moving forward requires prophecy directed by Holy Spirit. If you can see it, prophesy it. If you have heard it, speak it out in decree. I looked at empty chairs in our sanctuary and prophesied people into them. I looked at our checkbooks and prophesied money into our accounts. I looked at our building that is now too small for us and prophesied a larger facility. I looked at the lost in our city and prophesied their salvation. As I did this, the Lord said, “now you are moving forward.”

We cannot keep waiting for what is not coming, because it is not coming until we decree it, prophesy it, and release it in prayer and decree. God said, “Let there be light and there was light.” Light would not have come because he hoped for it or longed for it. It came because He decreed it. Let us hear from God, release His dreams within us through prophecy and get ready for the moving sidewalk to propel us forward into our destiny.
